ARASCO is one of the
pioneers and the current leader in manufacturing
Animal- feed and Aqua- feed in the Kingdom.
ARASCO is putting up the second feed mill in
Dammam in addition to the existing one
in Al-Kharj, thus aiming at a short term
target of a total annual production
of one million tons of complete
feeds, 60,000 tons of concentrates and
24,000 tons of premixes (vitamins& minerals).
The long term target for the company is
to achieve a total annual production of
2 million tons of complex feeds. This enhanced
capacity calls for a faster and more efficient
system for raw material input. Most of
the raw materials like Corn, Barley, Soya
bean meal, Sugar beat, and molasses are
imported from selected locations worldwide
in bulk by sea. This has necessitated the
existence of a suitable handling
and storage terminal at King Abdulaziz
Port, Dammam. .. More

This project will mainly
help to reduce the Vessel- handling time
considerably even with transport delays
that occur frequently when handled with
distant storage yards.
The ARASCO handling and storage project is located in the leased land adjacent
to Berths 37&38. The Bulk handling project employee strength is 300.
The flow chart shows the system adopted and also some of the unique and salient
features of the Project.
The entire system of equipment is supplied by M/s. Buhler AG, Switzerland, and
erected by ARASCO under the manufacturers’ supervision and guidance. The
lay –out and design is also audited by Buhler. There are consultants involved
in the various aspects of construction. M/s. Bruce White Wolf Barry England
( civil consultants and designers), M/s. Al- Hamdan (Civil consultants & designers)
and M/s. Riyad Al Nasser Est. (Electrical Consultants) are the major Design-consultants involved.
M/s. Saudi Wiemer & Trachte (Civil), M/s. Fulath Engineerig (Steel Structure)
M/s. Team Arabia ( Electrical) and M/s. Houta Sete (Dredging ) are the major
contractors.
The heart of the Project is the Unloading/Loading Machine Buhler Portalink
Combi L 600/300.
This Machine can Travel along the Berth along specially erected rails to a range
of 208 Mtrs. The maximum capacity is 600 Tons/ hr. for un- loading and 300
Tons/hr. for loading. This is a state of the art equipment in its range and can
handle wide variety of free flowing material like corn , barley, soybean meal/
pellets, sugar beat pellets etc. with its specially designed mechanical conveying
system. It has a carefully designed aspiration system to control atmospheric
pollution and limit it to the allowable standards.
The foundation for the Unloader Rails was designed by M/s Bruce White, taking
into consideration, the safety factors needed for the Warf. The landside rail
foundation is an inverted “ T ” which by its design, transmits the
static and dynamic load components of the unloader machine effectively without
any damage to the wharf.
The special A120 Rails for the unloader were supplied by M/s. Bemorail Holland
and have been installed as per the stipulated specification and tolerance
of the manufacturers.
The Steel structure for the Quay & Cross conveyor supports, Transfer
tower, Head House, Intake/ outloading stations and overhead Catwalks have
been fabricated and erected by M/s. Fulath Engineering, an associate company
of ARASCO.
The Storage Silos have been designed and supplied by M/s. Bental Rowlands, England
and erected by the Arasco team under their supervision. The 12 main Silos have
a total storage capacity of 80,000 Tons . They are made of rugged galvanized
steel sheets and are equipped with all modern system of intake, reclaim,
gravity spouts, sweep augers and temperature monitoring systems.
The Flat Storage Warehouse has a capacity of 30,000 Tons. With automatic in-feed.
The reclaim trenches lead to the Truck/ rail load outs.
The head house is the central receiving point which handles pre-cleaning and
weighment by Hopper Scale.
There are two rail sidings with loadout stations installed within the complex
to facilitate loading into rail wagons by which material can be transported directly
to the Factories.
Further, as a move for diversification and import substitution, ARASCO has set-up
a plant for manufacturing DCP (Di calcium Phosphate), which is one of the raw
materials for feed. A facility to store and handle Phosphoric Acid, one
of the raw materials for DCP, is also set-up within the same Project complex
as an added feature. This system is carefully designed to be totally independent
and isolated from the dry storage system due to quality and safety requirement.
With the commissioning of this Project in March 2003, ARASCO has acquired capability
to operate effectively as the major producer of all types of animal & Aquatic feeds supported
technically their Central Labs for Quality assurance to remain as the most reliable
source of feed in the Kingdom and thereby contribute effectively to boost
the National Economy.
